Kanye West‘s recent remarks about Lizzo‘s weight loss and the media’s promotion of an “unhealthy” lifestyle have drawn mixed reactions from the public on both sides of the debate.
Clearly, Lizzo didn’t appreciate Yeezy’s mention of her, trying to back up her argument and expressing her thoughts after the rapper’s remarks caught her attention.
“I feel like in America, everyone says my mom’s name in their mom’s mouth, not because of mom,” the “Grrrls” creator said on stage on the Toronto tour. “I’m in my fat, dark and pretty business.”
Yeezy‘s comments came during an appearance on the Fox News show by political commentator Tucker Carlson, the fashion designer who condemned the media’s portrayal of Lizzo as a symbol of obesity.
“When Lizzo lost 10 pounds and announced her weight loss on Instagram, bots attacked her for losing weight because the media wanted to promote being overweight as the new target when it was actually unhealthy,” West said. “It’s the devil.”
Lizzo is just the latest in a growing number of celebrities and public figures responding to Kanye’s recent comments, as the rapper has garnered countless headlines for his controversial remarks and social media posts .
The rapper came under fire for unveiling a White Lives Matter shirt on last Monday’s (Oct. 3) YZY SZN 9 show, which featured Sean “Diddy” Combs ) and the mother of hate crime victim Ahmaud Arbery, among others. West’s recent social media posts violated the platform’s policies and made anti-Semitic statements, resulting in the ban of his Twitter account.
